Old Photograph: Prague - James Owens

They are preparing to flee the city.
It is the fifth year of the war, and she is three.

Stiff pose. A tiny white dress.
Mended lace blooms at the throat.

Her father scowls beneath his beard
and holds her

like a valise full of her mother's bones.
